Ao Māori, Ao Auahi Kore Teaching Unit
This teaching unit has been produced for kaiako of 5 - 7 year olds, working in Māori medium classrooms and is estimated to be taught over a 2 - 3 week period. It is written entirely in Te Reo Māori and incorporates Achievement Objectives from both the Social Studies and Health curriculum documents.
Within the context of Te Ao Māori the two assumptions of this unit are;
1. Ao Māori, Ao Auahi Kore – Māori culture is a smoke-free culture.2. Cigarette smoking harms the human body.We have attempted to come from a potential perspective that focuses on the fact that the Māori world
is smoke-free rather than from the deficit perspective that half the Māori population smokes, however in saying that we haven't completely left out any references to the harm that tobacco does to the body. To download the teaching unit pdf for free,
