Auahi Kore Update Hui - What a Success! (Tuesday, 16 October 2007)

Rotorua, the beautiful and iconic home of tourism in Aotearoa, played host to the Te Hotu Manawa Māori (THMM) Update Hui for 2007. Held in the beautiful ‘Concert Room’ of the Kingsgate Hotel, 32 people attended the hui which focused on providing support for people engaged in the Auahi Kore field. It was wonderful to have people from all over the country, in fact the world, and from quite a wide range of backgrounds.

Following mihimihi, National Organisation representatives ShaneKawenataBradbrook (Te Reo Mārama), Mere Wilson (Health Sponsorship Council), and Irene Walker (THMM) gave informative presentations detailing the initiatives and programmes that their respective organisations are currently involved with, as well as initiatives that the organisations are collaboratively working on.

After lunch, Kristen Foley (Regional Public Health) gave a great report regarding mahi in the Central Regional, followed by a hui forum. The hui participants were split into groups to discuss the topics, What’s working and How can we better support one another.
Participants had the opportunity to share what initiatives, systems, or strategies being utilised, either by them, their organisations, or communities and then having recognised what is working, the groups then built on that by making suggestions as to how we could improve things by making things quicker, simpler or easier.

The discussion session was very well received. It was encouraging to hear all the great success stories, and also to learn that people are so positively motivated to strive for even more and better.

And so we must extend a big mihi to all those who attended. Your passion and commitment for the kaupapa is just amazing and motivating!
